(ECNS) – Authorities in Wuhai, Inner Mongolia, have confirmed in a Weibo post that recruits at a local firefighting division were physically abused by veterans, the Beijing News reported.

A 16-minute video released online shows five young men in uniforms getting repeatedly slapped and kicked by eight others.

The Weibo post verified that the people involved are members of a Wuhai firefighting division, and that the incident occurred in June of 2012.

"We are terribly shocked and ashamed that such outrageous bullying happened in our troop, and we apologize to the bullied soldiers and the public," said the post.

The department said it has submitted the case to the local public security bureau and that an investigation is underway.
