Zhang Shansi jogs on a treadmill.
(ECNS) -- A newly established media company in southwest China's Chongqing municipality has ordered overweight employees to lose at least 5 kg in three months or they will be fired, the Xi'an Evening News reported on Tuesday.
The regulation was introduced by Deng Bo, a partner of the company, who has lost 10 kg in four months.
The rule is designed to make overweight employees pay attention to their health and achieve a balance between work and life, said Deng, who himself faced health risks brought on by an unhealthy diet and lack of exercise.
An employee at the company named Zhang Shansi weighed 99 kg three months ago. Since the regulation was passed, the first thing he does every day at the office is jog on a treadmill for at least five minutes.
Zhang said he has successfully lost 10 kg in three months and formed a habit of exercising.
The regulation made me realize that it's essential for us to manage our time and pay attention to our health, Zhang added.
Hu Hao, head of the company, said staying healthy and "having a good figure" is a way of promoting yourself.
