(ECNS) -- Aerobic exercises said to help students fight the harm caused by air pollution have raised doubts by netizens, Xinhua News Agency has reported.
The creator of the exercises is Wei Huanqiang, vice deputy of the educational office at Guangminglu Primary School in Shijiazhuang, Hebei province. He said the 23 movements borrow from the martial arts, which coordinate acupuncture points and can detoxify lungs.
Netizens have been dubious however, with one saying: "Can simple movements excrete PM2.5?" Another said the effect of the exercises is being exaggerated.
Liu Erjun, a doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine at a local hospital, said pressing certain acupuncture points can improve people's immune systems, but it's hard to determine to what degree the exercises can help fight the harm of air pollution.
He Linxuan, a fourth-grade student at the school, is convinced that the exercises work.
Since November, students have been assigned to do the exercises indoors twice during smoggy days, when outdoor activities were forbidden.
