Hangzhou (ECNS) – A report released Thursday by Taobao shows that Chinese consumers have spent 870 million yuan (US$143 million) on anti-smog products in its online shops.
The report said there have been 4.5 million transactions involving anti-smog items this year. Purchases of face masks increased by 181 percent year on year, with air purifiers rising 131 percent.
Data released on Dec 6 showed that 760,000 masks and 140,000 air purifiers were sold on Taobao in the early days of the month, when smog hit central and eastern China.
In addition, transactions on financial products such as gold and funds reached 910 million yuan (US$149,695), and spinoffs of the Rubber Duck have contributed 8.53 million yuan ($1.4 million) to Taobao's online trading.
