Nanjing (ECNS) – Chinese tycoon and high-profile philanthropist Chen Guangbiao called upon the public to participate in the coming national economic census from a studio filled with piles of 100-yuan bills, 16 tons worth, on Tuesday night in Nanjing, Jiangsu province.
"Let my money feel the air and meet the sun. Economic census begins with me, myself," Cheng said from his studio made of money, with three walls of 100-yuan bills.
"I just want to use this exaggerated way to draw more people's attention to take part in the economic census," Chen said.
He said he believes his method is greener because it can also help save newspapers for publicity.
An economic census can help sort out our country's properties, and reveal what enterprises and individuals have and where their money comes from, Chen said. "I welcome those who want to query me to survey me. I'm not afraid of it."
To the criticism that he was showing off his wealth, Chen responded that he hoped more entrepreneurs would expose their wealth as he did. "All my money is clean. I hope my acts will lead more people to 'show off' their money to examine whether it was made legally."
It was the sixth and last time he used real money as a background, Chen added.
China's Third National Economic Census will start on Jan 1, 2014.
