(ECNS) – At a media awards ceremony on Monday, high-profile entrepreneur and philanthropist Chen Guangbiao claimed he would bid for the New York Times in the near future, according to rednet.cn.
Chen didn't release many details about the bid, but said "the negotiation is underway," stunning the audience and media.
Last year, Chen spent about 30,000 dollars to place an advertisement in the New York Times claiming China's sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands. On Aug 5 of this year, his son Chen Huanjing did the same thing. He also called on Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe not to visit the Yasukuni Shrine in the newspaper.
