(ECNS) – A comedy sketch aired by Spanish TV-5 on the final day of 2013 has offended many Chinese people, according to Spain-based Eulam.com.
The skit called "Mesa para Dos" was part of the channel.s New Year countdown gala. The skit tells the story of a married man secretly on a date with another woman, when they encounter his wife and parents-in-law in a Chinese restaurant.
A Spanish person plays the role of a buffoonish Chinese waiter dressed in a Tang Dynasty suit and skullcap. Wearing a long braid, he uses exaggerated expressions, such as bowing to welcome guests, slapping female customers on their butts.
Actors also blatantly shout "Este Chino es Gilipolla. (The Chinese is an idiot) in the play, make jokes about Chinese pronunciation, and imply that Chinese restaurants use cat and dog meat in their restaurants.
It's not the first time the TV channel has come under fire from Chinese viewers. In April last year, the channel smeared a number of Chinese restaurants in an interview program.
The play has irritated many Chinese in Spain, who say it has hurt their image and reputation. Some say they hope that Chinese institutions will organize a campaign against the channel.
