(ECNS) -- Two people have died from H7N9 avian flu after treatment failed in East China's Shanghai, including a surgeon from a local hospital, chinanews.com reported.
The Shanghai Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning said Monday in a statement on its website that one patient surnamed Zhang, 31, the surgeon, died around 4 a.m. on Saturday. And another patient, surnamed Wu, 77, a Shanghai farmer, died around midnight on the same day.
The official blog of Shanghai Pudong New Area People's Hospital confirmed Zhang's infection Monday through Sina Weibo.
