The Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau held a year-end press conference on Thursday.
(ECNS) -- An alcohol ban on all police staff in Beijing has been issued as of this month, the Beijing Youth Daily reports, citing the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau.
Beijing police are not permitted to drink alcohol unless they are approved after submitting a report, the bureau said at a year-end press conference on Thursday morning. Drinking at home is not included in the ban.
The move is to build a good image of the Beijing police force and prevent improper actions, the bureau said.
It also said the ban is a reminder to police officers to take care of their health, as many of them work 98 hours a week on average.
Wang Bingjian, deputy head of an inspection team, said one of their duties is to check whether the ban is being complied with.
Wang said the whole team will have alcohol breath tests before work every day.
