(ECNS) -- Pop violinist Vanessa-Mae finished her first Olympic show at Sochi as a skier on Tuesday, the Guangzhou Daily reported.
Racing under the name Vanessa Vanakorn and representing Thailand, Mae finished the Ladies' Giant Slalom in 67th place at 3 min 26.97 sec, 50.10 sec behind the gold medal winner.
Mae, 35, the oldest skier for the giant slalom, was happy with her performance. "My main purpose of being here was to have a good time."
With only six months to go for the Olympics, her training was a "last-minute thing," she said. "I nearly crashed three times, but I made it down and that was the main thing."
Of Thai and Chinese descent, Mae was born in Singapore, grew up in London and holds British citizenship. The musician made her name as a child classical violinist and became renowned for her glamorous style and for mixing classical music with pop.
She has toured more than 250 cities around the world for her solo concert, and won a Big Ben Award in 2009 as one of the UK's Ten Outstanding Chinese Young Persons.
