Consumer gets invoice made out to 'shameless woman'

(ECNS) -- A woman in Beijing who asked for an invoice from a restaurant was referred to as "shameless woman" on it, the Beijing News said.

The woman surnamed Cao said she ate at a restaurant in Beijing's Sanlitun area on Feb 8. She asked for an invoice, but was refused. Cao then argued with staff there.

Eventually, a staffer went to a neighboring restaurant and got an invoice for her.

However, Cao didn't find that the invoice was made out to "shameless woman" until three days later.

The staff at the restaurant responded that "It is a mistake by the printing machine."

In China, invoices are more than just ordinary receipts. They are also a way for the government to monitor taxes paid on transactions.

A consumer is entitled to obtain an invoice. If a business owner is unable to produce a valid invoice, the customer has the right to report it to authorities.
