(ECNS) -- Residents of Kunming, Yunnan province, are taking the initiative by donating blood for those injured in the terrorist attack at Kunming Railway station on Saturday, which left 29 people dead and 143 wounded, the Beijing Times reported on Monday.

The injured are being treated at 11 hospitals in the city.

A blood bank in Kunming is asking for donations from the public, as all blood types are in short supply. The center also announced the locations of 12 blood donation sites in the city.

As of 6:30 pm Sunday, 510,000 milliliters of blood had been donated by 1,900 citizens, according to a worker at the blood bank.

At a mobile blood site at the intersection of Beijing Road and Linyu Road, people willing to donate formed a line of 30 meters long on Sunday afternoon.

"We never knew there were so many kindhearted people willing to donate blood," said an employee at the blood center.

"I feel sad for those who are suffering from the horrific attack. Donating blood for the injured makes me feel better than just staying at home," said a girl waiting in line.
