(ECNS) -- Dangdang.com and Amazon.cn, two major e-commerce platforms in China, have been exposed for selling counterfeit cosmetic products, China Central Television (CCTV) reported on Thursday.
A consumer surnamed Feng said his wife bought Biotherm lipstick at a bargain price on dangdang.com, but found the product had already passed its expiration date.
Feng checked the lipstick's product information at the official website of the China Food and Drug Administration and found that the lipstick was fake.
To find the source of cosmetic products sold at online shopping malls, a reporter launched a secret investigation of a shop on dangdang.com.
Located in a residential building in Beijing's Fangshan district, the shop carries cosmetics from various international brands like Chanel, CK, and Estee Lauder.
The owner of the shop said Estee Lauder cosmetics are the hottest products. A bottle of Estee Lauder lotion with a market price of 480 yuan ($77) sells for 355 yuan.
The products are all smuggled goods sourced from a wholesale market in Beijing called "Tianzhaotian," which is home to nearly all brands of cosmetics, according to the shop owner.
Shopping on Amazon.cn, the reporter bought two skincare products, "Nutritious Vita-Mineral Moisture Crème" by Estee Lauder and "Hydrafresh Hydration+Antiox Active Supreme Emulsion" by L'Oreal, and sent them for testing.
Results showed that both products were fake.
