(ECNS) – The Chinese mainland and Taiwan haven't started the Cross-Straits currency swap negotiations yet, said Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman for China's Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council (TAOSC).
The mainland is still doing research on the swap, Ma said Wednesday.
Last year, Taiwan proposed signing a currency swap agreement in 2014.
Zhou Xiaochuan, president of the People's Bank of China, the nation's central bank, said at the two sessions in early March that the agreement was still in the blueprint stage.
According to Central News Agency, Taiwan's central bank has been ready for the agreement. Perng Fai-nan, governor of the bank, said on March 6 that he hoped to sign a cross-Straits currency swap agreement by the end of this year.
