(ECNS)-- A single woman in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, has become pregnant through artificial insemination after she gave up on finding her Mr. Right, the Yangtse Evening Post said on Wednesday.
Nuo Qin is a former employee of a state-owned enterprise. At 33, she was seen as a "leftover woman", but now she is six months pregnant after undergoing artificial insemination.
"I don't want to marry someone I don't love," said Nuo, who had two failed relationships.
"I made the decision out of a fear of being alone in my later years," she said.
"I considered spending my golden years at a nursing home, but I was disappointed by the poor care facilities and conditions at some local nursing homes."
Nuo paid a lot for her decision. She made two attempts to get pregnant, getting hormone injections. Without the help of a husband, she had to handle all the paperwork by herself.
She also didn't win support from her traditional parents at first.
"They tried to advise me to abort the child, but I finally brought them around," Nuo said.
"Now my parents are looking forward to the baby as I am," said Nuo, who quit her job to stay at home with the baby.
