Fuzhou (ECNS) -- Two men on Thursday were seen panhandling alongside a mutilated camel on a sidewalk near Daping road in Fuzhou, Fujian province.

The injured camel is a cruel ploy to create sympathy among passersby, some residents said.

Local police arrived at the spot soon after receiving reports from local residents who were concerned about the animal.

Crouching down on all fours, the camel had no hooves and the wounds on its legs appeared to have been inflicted on purpose.

The two beggars refused to respond to police, who said they will continue investigating.
