(ECNS) -- A group of people wielding knives attacked high school students on their way home in Northwest China's Shaanxi province, leaving one dead and two injured, a local news portal reported.
Cnwest.com said the news and photos were first posted Wednesday on Tieba ("Post Bar" in Chinese), Baidu's discussion forum portal.
Yin Yixian, chief administrator of the high school in Hanbin district, Ankang city, said on Thursday that more than 10 students were attacked for no reason by a group of knife-wielding people around 5:40 pm on Tuesday.
The students called the police, and three students were sent to the hospital, and one, surnamed Huang, died from loss of blood, he said.
Yin also denied rumors that it was a clash among students at the school gate, saying, "Defenseless students were assaulted by knife-wielding strangers."
Yin led reporters to the site of the incident, about one kilometer from the school, where blood stains had been washed away by rain on Wednesday.
Local police said an investigation is underway.
