(ECNS) – Young people stripped off their pants on Subway Line 1 in Harbin, capital city of Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, on Tuesday to mark the 45th World Earth Day.

Over 40 young people and expats wore their underwear to raise public awareness about energy saving and emissions reduction.

Some passengers marveled at the scene, but quickly learned about the activity's purpose to promote low-carbon living.

The move was an imitation of the No Pants Subway Ride started in 2002 by New York-based prank collective Improv Everywhere.
