(ECNS) -- A man from Fujian province died while talking on his iPhone, which was being charged, a local news website said.
The man, surnamed Wu, 49, lived with his family in Shishi, Quanzhou city. He was found dead by his daughter around 9:00 pm on his bed. In his right hand, he was holding a white iPhone5 onto the right side of his neck.
The iPhone5 was connected to a charger in a nearby power outlet.
Wu's daughter said she touched her father's body and felt a slight shock of electricity. Then she pulled out the charger and found her father was not breathing.
Wu was immediately taken to the nearest hospital, but he could not be revived.
Burns were found on the right side of his neck and right hand, which was holding the iPhone. "The wounds are like burned cuts," his family said.
Judging from the burns, doctors estimated the cause of death is from electrocution via the phone charger.
His daughter said the phone was sent from Wu's sister in Macau.
The daughter found the iPhone still in working condition after the incident. It showed an incoming call when a family member dialed Wu's number. And no burn marks were found on the charger.
Wu's family said they don't plan to file a lawsuit, which would be costly and time-consuming.
As they didn't report to the police, there is no investigation.
In July 2013, a 23-year-old flight attendant was killed after getting an electric shock from picking up her iPhone4 while it was charging at her home in Xinjiang.
