(ECNS) – Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams in China have been upgrading their equipment in recent years as a precaution against potential terrorist attacks, the Guangxi-based Modern Life Daily reported.
Generally, a SWAT officer is equipped with about 10 basic pieces of gear worth at least 300,000 yuan ($48,000).
The items include a gun, tear gas spray, a knife, an expandable baton, a bulletproof vest, cut-resistant gloves, a tactical LED flashlight, a first-aid packet, handcuffs, and a tactical radio.
In addition, cruisers, crash helmets, goggles, riot shields and pressure-relief vents are also provided when officers are on duty.
SWAT teams are committed to dealing with dangerous incidences, such as hostage situations, terrorist acts, and high risk warrants.
According to military enthusiasts, a SWAT officer is equipped with a Type 95 automatic rifle and a Type 92 gun for backup, while snipers use Type 85 or 88 rifles.
