(ECNS) -- A young urban management officer, or chengghuan, in Fujian province has used a math quiz to expose a beggar who pretended to be a high school student.
Lan Qichao is a chengguan in Nanping. He said that while on patrol he noticed a girl kneeling on a roadside, surrounded by people.
Wearing a school uniform and carrying a school bag, the girl tried to solicit sympathy and money from passers-by. Her sob story was written on a piece of paper in front of her.
It is forbidden to beg in that area, Lan said, but I also suspected that she wasn't being honest.
Instead of driving the girl away, he wrote out a math problem and gave it to her, saying "If you really are a high school student, then solve it."
After her deception was revealed, the girl left of her own volition.
Chengguan have a very bad reputation in China, and are often accused of brutality against vendors and squatters while enforcing urban management laws.
An urban management officer, or Chengguan, in Jiangsu province has started wearing Google Glass as part of his law enforcement kit, the Yangtze Evening Post observed on Monday.
