(ECNS) – The Ministry of Public Security and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) on Friday jointly issued a notice ending compulsory inspections of non-commercial vehicles and small and mini passenger cars that have been bought for less than six years.
The compulsory checks had evolved into a lucrative business for vehicle administrative offices, making them unpopular with private car owners. A lack of government supervision had also aroused much discontent.
Under the new policy, from September 1, 2014, vehicle owners can get inspection certificates from the traffic administrative departments, but every other year must submit documents of insurance, tax payments or tax exemptions.
The notice contains 17 more items that regulate and simplify vehicle inspections. For example, car owners can schedule inspections in advance, or bring their vehicles to other cities for inspections.
Meanwhile, the notice prohibits governmental departments from conducting vehicle inspections and promises to enhance supervision and enforcement.
