(ECNS) -- China's television watchdog has asked the country's major TV stations to air certain TV shows to participate in a campaign for the "Chinese Dream" from July to October, People's Daily online said.
A statement by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) listed 127 domestic TV shows as options for central and provincial TV stations to purchase and air from July to October.
Patriotic shows about modern military force, deceased state leaders, SOE reform and Sichuan earthquake are on the list, and some drama programs dealing with family are also included.
TV stations don't have to broadcast all the listed shows, insiders said, they can just choose three or four. But it also may disrupt their former plans for airing TV drama shows.
The administration also asked TV stations to report their plans beforehand.
Summer vacation of Chinese students usually goes from early July to late August, and the National Day Holiday is in October.
Some period drama shows have already been aired as they had heard such rumors.
Xie Xiaohu, a TV and film critic, said the statement will further influence TV production in the future, as shows that are listed by SAPPRFT can have good returns.
SAPPRFT last month limited the prime-time airing of a TV drama show to two satellite channels, down from four, a move to liven up programming and boost competition.
The lack of copyright and violating regulations are the two reasons for the recent removal of several popular American TV series from Chinese video streaming sites, according to China's broadcast watchdog.
