(ECNS) – Entrepreneurs and venture capitalists from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan called for establishing a Kinmen-Xiamen Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to help both sides of the Taiwan Straits seize the rising Asian market share, at a press conference hosted in Xiamen, Fujian province, on Sunday, according to the Taiwan-based Want Daily.
Kinmen, no more than two kilometers from Xiamen, has played a great role in the cultural and economic exchanges between the mainland and Taiwan.
Li Su, chief partner at Hejun Vanguard Group, said a Kinmen-Xiamen SEZ might be the solution for Taiwan to make up losses caused by movements against the Cross-Straits Service Trade Agreement on the island.
In March, Taiwan students launched movements against the pact, causing suspension of negotiations on the agreement across the Taiwan Straits.
A plan for building a cross-sea bridge connecting Kinmen and Xiamen is also underway.
