(ECNS) -- The UNESCO has confirmed on Wednesday to the Beijing News that they have accepted China's application to preserve the archives that prove the suffering of "comfort women" and make it part of the UN body's Memory of the World program.
Isabelle Le-Fournis, press officer of UNESCO, said the specific content of the application will be disclosed on Memory of the World page of the official website of UNESCO in mid July.
Beijing rejected Tokyo's demand on Wednesday to withdraw China's application.
UNESCO established the Memory of the World program in 1992. Impetus came originally from a growing awareness of the parlous state of preservation of, and access to, documentary heritage in various parts of the world.
