(ECNS) – Robberies of Chinese tourists near Philippines' Manila Airport are not directed against China, the Chinese Embassy said.

Recently, several tourists from China were robbed near Manila International Airport. Zhang Hua, a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Manila, told Beijing News that these are unrelated cases, and that no evidence shows the robberies were targeted at China.

Dun Jidong, senior marketing director at Ctrip, one of China's biggest online travel agencies, said Chinese tourists become easy targets because they tend to carry lots of cash.

Given the fact that most of the victims were robbed by taxi drivers, Dun said solo tourists should remember to buy insurance and stay alert when taking cabs. Chinese tourists are advised to seek consular protection in case of a robbery.

Although the robberies are not directed at China, Dun said they would inevitably dampen people's enthusiasm to visit the Philippines.
