Macao (CNS) -- The female panda Xinxin, given as a gift to Macao from the Chinese mainland, died at 8:18 pm Sunday, China Radio National reported.
The Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau of Macao said at a press conference that Xinxin had died of acute renal failure and related ailments.
Xinxin's renal function was found to be abnormal in a routine check last month. Although she had no clinical symptoms, Xinxin was uncooperative in daily training, the bureau said.
Xinxin and Kaikai were selected as gifts to mark the 10th anniversary of the return of Macao to China in 2010. Their names together mean "happiness."
Kaikai is in good condition now, and the panda pavilion in Macao is temporarily closed.
