(ECNS) – Some Vietnamese women married to Chinese men and living in China have become a key part of drug trafficking across the China-Vietnam border, the Beijing Times reported, citing Guangxi police.
Police at Pingxiang, a border city in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region neighboring Vietnam's Lang Son, said they cracked a drug-trafficking gang last month and seized 15.2 kilograms of heroin. Among the gang members was a Vietnamese woman named Huang Jinqing who had illegally married a Chinese.
Huang acted as a go-between to connect drug suppliers in Vietnam, police said.
A policeman said that in recent years they had found Vietnamese brides involved in five or six drug cases annually.
China and Vietnam launched a three-month anti-drug operation along their shared border in late February.
In recent years, a number of Vietnamese women have married Chinese, and some of the marriages were illegal.
