(ECNS) – A 20-minute video of Japan officially surrendering to China in Zhijiang, Hunan province, in 1945, will be released to the public later this year, according to Xinhua News Agency, citing Wu Jianhong, curator of the Memorial Hall of the Anti-Japanese War and the Acceptance of the Japanese Surrender.
The first major Japanese surrender in China took place at the Zhijiang Airfield on August 21, 1945, marking the end of Japan's War of Aggression against China.
The film, shot by Americans, was provided by the US National Archives, Wu said.
The historic clip will be part of a documentary to be released this year, Wu added.
Monday marks the 77th anniversary of the beginning of the Chinese people's war against Japanese aggression.
Chinese leaders took part in a grand gathering at the Museum of the War of the Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression on Monday morning.
In February, China set December 13 as a national memorial day for the Nanjing Massacre victims. The National Memorial website (http://www.cngongji.cn/) was officially launched on Sunday.
