(ECNS) -- A Beijing newspaper has confirmed that Facebook has rented office space in downtown Beijing, citing an unnamed source.
The social networking giant was rumored to have leased more than 800 square meters of office space in the Fortune Financial Center in Beijing's central business district, but the interior decoration hadn't begun.
The Beijing Youth Daily said insiders at HKI China Land Ltd., the developer of the Fortune Financial Center tower, confirmed that Facebook has signed a three-year contract with them, but didn't reveal how large the office space is.
"I remember that they didn't rent a whole floor," he added, but he was not sure.
The 265-meter-high tower was finished last September and offers a view of the Forbidden City and Bird's Nest from the higher floors. The monthly lease price for the building is 500 yuan ($80) per square meter.
Reporters found no Facebook logo in the lobby of the tower and several workers were still working there. A real estate agent said the building is leased out floor by floor and that tenants have to provide business licenses issued from the industry and commerce department.
Spokespersons for HKI China Land and Facebook haven't commented.
