(ECNS) – Twelve airports in eastern and central Chinese cities have been required to decrease 25 percent of their flights from July 20 to August 15 in the name of air traffic control, according to the official Weibo account of CCTV's Financial Channel.
The post said that flights from or to the twelve cities including Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wuhan, and Qingdao should be delayed due to airspace occupation by "other users."
According to Shanghai's airports, delay and cancellation of flights were caused by military exercises. By 12:30 pm on Monday, 98 flights had been cancelled at the city's Hongqiao airport and 15 flights had been delayed for over 2 hours. At Pudong airport, the situation was worse. 101 flights had been cancelled and 103 had been delayed.
Air traffic control in eastern and central China also affected southern and northern Chinese cities. According to news.youth.cn. Flights in southern cities such as Guangzhou and Shenzhen, and northern cities including Beijing and Shijiazhuang, were disrupted as well.
