(ECNS) – A massive gold mine with at least 127 tons of reserves and potentially worth 40 billion yuan (US$6.44 billion) has been prospected in Ulugqat county of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, xinhuanet.com reported.
It is the largest gold mine ever found in Xinjiang.
After about 20 years of exploration, 21 gold ore belts have been found in the region. By June, 127 tons of gold reserves had been reported, said Cui Hongbin, a team leader from the Xinjiang Geology and Mineral Exploration Bureau.
Cui also said that the prospective capacity of the mine could be as much as 200 tons.
