(ECNS) – Nearly all cell phones with Qualcomm Snapdragon chips are affected by a security flaw that could expose sensitive information, according to a computer security expert.
Computer security researcher Dan Rosenberg released his findings at the Black Hat conference in Las Vegas last week.
As the world's largest chip manufacturer, Qualcomm's chips are widely used in smart devices. The security flaw affects almost all cell phones with Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, such as the HTC One and Samsung's Galaxy Note 3. Popular Chinese brands that use Snapdragon chips include Huawei, Xiaomi and Coolpad, to name a few.
Qualcomm said it's aware of the problem and has made available software updates to patch the vulnerability.
Experts say some manufacturers of the processor have also noticed the flaw and are making fixes.
