Workers remove dead trees in Jianye district of Nanjing, Jiangsu province on September 9, 2014. Trees all died after the Youth Olympic Games.

(ECNS) – Dozens of withered trees have been uprooted and piled along Yecheng Road and South Jiangdong Road near Nanjing's Youth Olympic Village.

When the Youth Olympic Games were in full swing in August, many expensive trees such as magnolias and camphor trees cast shade along the roads.

The trees were planted ahead of the games as an image project to beautify the city.

Experts say the death of the trees was caused by high temperatures, as they were planted out of season.

People have complained that the dead trees are a huge waste.

The Nanjing government has also been blamed for the return of heavy air pollution, as pollution-curbing efforts before and during the games have ended.
