(ECNS) – Jack Ma has crushed rumors spreading online that he will soon get Hong Kong residency through the investor immigration program.
"I'm a Hangzhou resident, and my hukou is still in Hangzhou," said the 50-year-old founder and executive chairman of e-commerce giant Alibaba.
Some Hong Kong media started the rumor on Tuesday, citing Ma's speech at the Asia Roadshow in Hong Kong for the Alibaba Group's IPO on the New York Stock Exchange, to be launched on Sept 19.
Ma denied the rumors, saying he doesn't have any plans to switch residency.
"I love Hangzhou, and I love Hong Kong too. I like its weather, food and the fact that it's part of China," Ma wrote on Laiwang, an instant messaging service owned by Alibaba.
He also wrote that he doesn't have prejudices against immigration, and that he believes most immigrants are still helping their motherland in different ways.
Ma was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, where he started his business empire. He became China's richest man in August, according to the Bloomberg billionaires index.
