(ECNS) – An exhibition of ink paintings by famous artist and illustrator Xuan Yongsheng at the Today Art Museum is ready to offer a feast for the eyes of anyone interested in traditional Chinese ink painting.
The exhibition, The Madness, Elegance, and Thrill of Ink – The Spirit and Style of Xuan Yongsheng's Ink Painting, will feature Xuan's later series of Not Mountain Not Water as well as earlier artworks to reflect his entire artistic career.
Xuan is a distinguished artist known throughout the Chinese and North American art community. Apart from ink painting, the Canadian Chinese artist has artworks in multiple mediums, such as book illustration, ceramics and woodblock painting.
Inspired by the aesthetics "leisure without restraint," the exhibition aims to introduce the grandness and profundity of ink, as well as the power of abstraction and imagination that break through rigid painting styles.
The exhibition, hosted by Today Art Museum and co-organized by Beijing Shangyuan Art Museum, is the first retrospective exhibition of Xuan after his return from Canada.
