Houston (ECNS) – China has the world's second largest billionaire population, a new survey shows.
Research firm Wealth X and Swiss-based Bank UBS jointly released the survey on Sept 17, which shows that the number of billionaires continues to grow globally despite a lukewarm economy.
In 2014, the world's billionaire population grew 7 percent to 2,325, with their total worth rising 12 percent to $7.3 trillion, and 155 people reported a worth of over one billion dollars for the first time.
Of those new billionaires, 33 are from China.
By June of 2014, the US hosted the biggest billionaire population, with 571 making the list, while China, with 190 billionaires, ranked second.
The survey also shows that Asia's billionaires create wealth faster than those in any other region, with a wealth growth of 18.7 percent.
The billionaires are concentrated in the finance, banking, investment and real estate sectors. Eighty-eight percent of them are male.
UBS chief investor Simon Smiles said most billionaires are eyeing the huge consumption potential of fast-developing countries like China.
