Guangzhou (ECNS) – Police in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong province, on Thursday announced that they had shut down a gang of 14 counterfeiters selling fake Louis Vuitton (LV) handbags, and seized items worth about 1 billion yuan ($162 million).
The crime ring had set up a fake LV website and sold imitation handbags to overseas consumers.
Police said they destroyed six dens used to make and sell fake LV bags, and confiscated 11,000 bags, 494 scrolls of finished and semi-finished leather printed with the LV logo, 30 million labels, and 27 production machines.
The municipal police have intensified crackdowns on economic crimes this year, tracking down 943 counterfeiting cases so far.
