(ECNS) -- GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) China was fined 3 billion yuan (about $500 million) for bribery.
Changsha Intermediate People's court in Hunan province ruled on Friday, September 19 that the company was guilty of bribing non-governmental personnel for improper commercial gains.
GSK China's general manager Mark Reilly and other people involved in the case were sentenced to two to four years' imprisonment.
The British drugmaker was found offering bribes to hospitals, doctors, other medical institutions and organizations for billions of yuan in illegal profit, inflating drug prices.
This is the biggest penalty China has imposed on a company.
GSK posted an apology on its official website after the verdict was read.
