Sansha (ECNS) – China's southernmost city, Sansha, located in Hainan province, has announced the establishment of national flag guard teams for nine islands.
The Monday announcement said teams of local militia will be deployed to Yongxing Island, Zhaoshu Island, Beidao Island , Jinqing Island, Yagong Island, Ganquan Island, Yinyu Island, Lingyang Reef and Meiji Reef.
They will raise China's national flag every Monday morning, as well as hold flag-raising ceremonies for major festivals and activities.
"We will raise the flag on October 1 to celebrate our country's 65th anniversary," said Wu Zhongchan and Cao Liezhu, members of the guard at Zhaoshu Island.
Zeng Rongjie, another member, said the flag-raising mission was to defend national sovereignty and dignity.
