(ECNS) -- Sichuan province is planning to build the first-ever panda national park, local media reported.
The ambitious plan was released at a press conference on ecological protection held by the provincial forestry department on Friday.
"Picking a location would definitely be based on natural conditions," the West China City Daily said, citing an official at the department's wildlife protection office.
He said the park would cover mountain chains where pandas live, adding that the office would seek cooperation with international organizations to pick the best location.
The ministry also released a guideline which promised to build green shelters at the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. In the entire province, forested area will be no less than 270 billion mu (one mu is 0.0667 hectare), and wetlands no less than 25 million mu by 2020, it said.
