Xining (CNS) – Four 62-day-old Siberian tiger cubs born on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau made their debut Thursday at a zoo in Xinning, capital of Qinghai province.
The three girls and one boy are the first set of tiger quadruplets born on the plateau.
They each weigh an average of 7.5 kilograms and are 40 centimeters long and 20 centimeters tall, said Yuan Hui, a breeder at the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Wild Zoo.
A name contest for the quadruplets is underway, the zoo's vice director Qi Xinzhang said.
The zoo introduced Siberian tigers to the plateau in 2008. It now has 14 tigers, with 6 born this year.
Siberian tigers are the world's largest living cats. They are listed as one of the most endangered species, with some 500 existing around the world. China has also put them under national protection.
