(ECNS) – Chinese audiences will no longer be able to watch online overseas TV series at the same time they come out abroad, the Southern Metropolis Daily reports.
The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television won't allow imported TV series to be available on video websites before they are censored, according to a new regulation revealed by an unnamed Wechat account.
The new rule will delay TV series for whole seasons before they are released with Chinese subtitles, which means Chinese audiences will watch them six months to a year later than viewers in South Korea or the United States, for example.
Many American series contain violent or sensitive scenes that will likely be deleted.
The regulation may lead some American TV series to not be seen in China at all, analysts said.
