Hong Kong (ECNS) – Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying said at a government meeting on Tuesday that he's set to attend the APEC meeting in Beijing and push for the launch of the Shanghai-Hong Kong stock connect.
The stock connect, also called the "through train," will allow international investors to buy stocks in Shanghai while giving mainland investors the chance to buy stocks listed in Hong Kong.
Leung said the connect will strengthen Hong Kong's status as a global financial center.
The ongoing protest in Hong Kong is threatening the city's rule of law, and Hong Kong will take measures to bring the city back to order, Leung said.
"I'll have talks with central government leaders at the summit, and ask for their support in the stock connect," Leung said.
Beijing will host the 22nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting from Nov 5 to 11. [Special coverage]
