(ECNS) -- Guangzhou Evergrande on Wednesday morning officially unveiled Italy's World Cup winning captain Fabio Cannavaro as its executive coach, with former mentor Marcello Lippi remaining as head manager.
Lippi and his team signed another 3-year contract with Evergrande.
The head manager announced he didn't want to remain as head coach after Guangzhou won their fourth successive Chinese Super League title on Sunday, but would take charge as the team's technical director.
Cannavaro captained Italy's national team to the 2006 World Cup championship final while playing under Lippi as coach.
The former defender has been part of United Arab Emirates club Al Ahli's coaching staff until recently. The job at Evergrande is his first as an executive coach. "This is a great challenge for me," he told the Guangzhou press.
