Guangyuan (ECNS) -- A wounded panda was found about 500 meters (0.3 miles) from a protection center in Qingjiang, Sichuan province by officers on a field monitoring round on Monday morning.

The three-year-old animal, hiding in a rock cave, had part of its intestines ripped out, possibly from an attack by several yellow-throated martens.

Officers of the Qingjiang Natural Reserve Center said the panda probably walked to the center to seek help from humans.

Local vets have since arrived on the scene, while experts at Chengdu Panda Breeding Base have been dispatched to provide assistance.
