(ECNS) -- Animal rights activists have voiced opposition on China's twitter-like Sina Weibo to an ongoing fur trade fair held in the capital, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.
Ahead of the trade fair at Beijing Exhibition Center, bloody photos showing minks being killed and cruelly skinned were posted to Sina Weibo, in contrast to gorgeous celebrities wearing mink coats.
Animal rights activists also plan to hand out bloody photos and petitions during the event.
A marketing staff member at the fair, surnamed Wang, said similar fairs had been held in Chongqing, Kunming, Guiyang as well as other cities and that the protest is "normal."
Industrialized mink and sheep farming is legal, Wang explained, with painless euthanasia adopted on the assembly line.
"How will farmers survive if they don't sell fur or wool?" he asked.
In 2012, animal rights activists held a peaceful protest against Canadian seal products at the annual China Fur & Leather Products Fair in Beijing.
