At the invitation of the Chinese government, the Queen is visiting the country as UN Secretary-General Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development.
Discussing financial services provided in China, Queen Maxima talked with Wang Yan, the restaurant owner about using loans to expand her business and how to manage repayments. Wang got a 150,000 yuan ($24.432) bank loan to double the size of the establishment. Wang also revealed how she gained knowledge of finance and what related training is available.
Queen Maxima was appointed UN Secretary-General Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development in September 2009. Inclusive Finance relates to an international community that boosts communication and cooperation, building a financial system that works for people globally, especially among poor rural households and small companies outside formal financial systems.
The Queen's role includes visiting developing countries and submitting reports to the UN regarding annual Inclusive Finance development. She advocates for low income groups and small- and medium-sized companies to have access to modern, safe and convenient financial services.
