(ECNS) -- China's capital Beijing will spell out basic requirements for architecture, Vice Mayor Chen Gang said on Tuesday.
Chen made the remarks during a symposium to promote inheritance and innovation in architectural culture.
"Through urban planning, necessary requirements will be put in place based on the shape, size, style, colors, form and materials used in new buildings," he said.
Chen added that urban planning would play a guiding role in determining the skyline of Beijing, and that the city will attach greater importance to the design of public spaces to create a pleasant living environment.
"We will try to maintain the distinctive features of Beijing as a city of history and culture, and also show its status as an international metropolis. "
On October 15, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for "no more weird architecture" at a meeting in Beijing.
