(ECNS) -- Basketball player Stephon Marbury of the Beijing Ducks joined 10 basketball and football fans from volunteer organization Beijing Tale to clear leaflets from the local subway on Monday morning, Beijing Youth Daily reported.
At about 10 am, Marbury entered Wangfujing Station on Subway Line One where a volunteer gave him the No.003 nametag on behalf of other members.
"I am a Beijinger. I love green commuting. I love Beijing, subways and basketball," Marbury told a reporter.
With its goal of promoting better behavior amongst sports fans, the activity has been welcomed by the Civic Enhancement Committee Office in the capital.
Afterwards, Marbury posted "Thanks for allowing me to be part of the positive movement!" on Twitter-like Sina Weibo. He also said he was touched to see more and more basketball fans clearing away litter after games.
Marbury, a Brooklyn native, was named an honorary citizen by the Beijing government in April 2014. He also received a gold key to the city, presented by Beijing Mayor Wang Anshun, as a tribute from the local community.
